As part of UK Construction Week 2017, two groups of Year 10 students from The Gilberd School in Colchester enjoyed an interactive talk about the construction industry from Countryside during their Resistant Materials GCSE lessons on Monday 9th October.

Providing the students with two different insights into company, Ian Richie, Senior Project Manager at the Beaulieu development in Chelmsford, and Daniel Hearn, a Countryside graduate and now Marketing Co-ordinator, spoke to the students about their roles at Countryside and within the wider construction industry. The presentation was a fantastic opportunity for the students to learn about the latest construction techniques, types of jobs available in construction and skills required, and to ask questions about careers available within the industry.

Chris Bladon, Managing Director of Countryside's New Homes and Communities Eastern Region, comments: 'UK Construction Week is the perfect opportunity to engage with students from local schools and ensure they are fully aware of the excellent opportunities the construction industry has to offer. Countryside is committed to providing opportunities to students at each educational stage, with positions available for Apprentices, Interns, Placement Year Students and Graduates across our business. We are delighted that we were able to arrange this presentation for The Gilberd School's GCSE students. We hope that the visit to the school has left the students feeling inspired and excited about a possible career in construction.'

Beverly Maloney, Design Technology Teacher and Developing Excellence in STEM Co-ordinator at The Gilberd School, adds: 'We are extremely grateful to Countryside for organising the presentations. This was an excellent experience for students to meet experts in the field and ask all their questions regarding construction and potential careers in the industry. The students found it particularly helpful, as they are familiar with the current Countryside development located near to the school.'
