According to a recent report by Halifax, the average deposit paid by a first time buyer has more than doubled over the past decade, with many having to find £32,321 in order to achieve their dream of home ownership[1]. Now, home builder Countryside has released a selection of one and two-bedroom apartments at its Horsted Park development in Chatham, Kent which are ideal for those aspiring to climb onto the property ladder.

Available through the Help to Buy scheme, purchasers of the Ardingly and Bodium apartments can avoid high deposits by paying as little as £9,625, which is £22,696 lower than the national average deposit. The Help to Buy scheme provides buyers the opportunity to purchase with as little as a 5% deposit with a 20% loan from the Government, interest free for the first five years, giving first time buyers in Kent a better chance for homeownership.

Emma Fearn, Associate Director for Sales and Marketing at Countryside's New Homes and Communities South region, comments: 'Today home ownership is valued as a significant landmark for personal and financial development. Countryside understands that it is affordability that's crucial, especially among first-time buyers, for unlocking the door to their own home and has already helped a significant number of home buyers at Horsted Park through the Help to Buy scheme. The apartments are ideal for first time buyers wanting to beat the London price bubble and offer an ideal commuting base with Chatham being just a 37 minute commute from the City. Our homes also offer a high specification as standard, with no extra or hidden costs after they move into their new Countryside home.'

Offering stylish open-plan living spaces, well-equipped kitchens with integrated appliances and flooring fitted throughout, the one bedroom Ardingly apartments comprise contemporary interiors designed to make the most of space and natural light. The master bedroom benefits from fitted wardrobes and the modern white bathroom suite boasts Saloni tiles and Amtico Spacia flooring.

Surrounded by open countryside and with the historic Fort Horsted on its boundary, the village style development has been thoughtfully designed to accommodate busy, modern day life, by providing new community facilities and large open spaces for residents to enjoy. A new central 'village green' is being created with a community events space and cafe, which will become the heart of Horsted Park, connecting with two parks and a circular green walk.

Horsted Park benefits from all of the amenities that both Chatham and Rochester have to offer. Chatham is well served with shopping and leisure attractions, while the ancient cathedral city of Rochester boasts culture and heritage. From Chatham station, less than two miles from Horsted Park, direct rail services operate into central London in as little as 37 minutes and serve a range of mainline stations including St Pancras International, Victoria and Cannon Street. By road, the M2 is less than a mile away giving rapid access to the M20, M26, M25, the Dartford Crossing and London Airports, as well as the Channel ports and tunnel.

Prices at Horsted Park start from £192,500 for a one bedroom apartment, with two bedroom apartments currently starting from £240,000.
