Countryside, one of the UK's leading home builders specialising in placemaking and regeneration, has unveiled Ann Shaw Garden - the newly designed public area on the site of the former Henbury Way Gardens. The garden is in memory of the late Cllr Ann Shaw, the former Leader of Three Rivers District Council who passed away last year.

The unveiling, attended by family members of Cllr Ann Shaw, local Councillors, members of the South Oxhey Community Board and Countryside, saw the opening of a new children's play area, seating, additional trees and a paved looping path.

Cllr Ann Shaw contributed significantly to the community and was committed to her role as a member of the council to help the people she represented. Passionate about protecting the environment, she set up a network of playgrounds and leisure facilities throughout the district to cater for young people.

The Ann Shaw Garden is part of the £180m regeneration of South Oxhey Central. Set across an 11-acre site, it will provide a total of 514 new homes, a market square, over 55,000 sq ft of retail space including a Lidl food store, improvements to the approach to Carpenders Park rail station and new public spaces. The housing comprises a mix of private sale, shared ownership and social rent housing, ranging in size from apartments to family housing. Delivered over three phases, the whole project is expected to complete in 2022.

Daniel King, Development Director for West London at Countryside Partnerships South, said: 'We are humbled to have been able to open this garden in memory of the late Cllr Ann Shaw. She was highly praised for her dedication to the future of this area and South Oxhey will become part of her legacy.

'The regeneration of South Oxhey is breathing new life into the area; providing new homes for local residents, improved public spaces, much-needed services and employment opportunities within a thriving community. With fantastic transport connections to London, watch this space.'

Alan Head, Head of Property & Major Projects at Three Rivers District Council, added: 'We are pleased to see these gardens open in the heart of South Oxhey Central. They provide residents with some fantastic green open space and will become a focal point in the area. We have always been passionate about ensuring that our residents benefit from plenty of public space as it's vital to the fabric of community and wellbeing.

'Having worked closely with her for a number of years, the late Cllr Ann Shaw would have been delighted with the gardens and it's a fitting tribute to her work and vision for the area.'
