Intelligent cruise control PPC in the TopClass 500 wins Sustainability Prize

  • Trade magazine busplaner awards prize to latest generation of touring coaches

  • Jury emphasises additional four percent fuel saving

  • Brand previously won the international prize in 2013

The Setra TopClass 500 marks a new generation of touring coaches combining luxurious appointments with outstanding economy.

The intelligent cruise control Predictive Powertrain Control (PPC) in the Setra TopClass 500 has won the "International busplaner Sustainability Prize 2015". With victory in the "touring coach" category at the award ceremony in Munich, the brand was able for the second time in two years to celebrate receiving the prize from the Huss publishing house, which already in 2013 had announced Setra ComfortClass 500 vehicles as the winners in the Ecology and Economy categories.

In giving the reasons for this year's award, the jury member and editor in charge of busplaner Thomas Burgert headed in the same direction: "The Setra TopClass 500 vehicle concept achieves fuel savings of six to eight percent, thanks to the BlueEfficiency Power engine OM 470/471 - a reduction of exhaust emissions by minus 80 percent for nitrogen oxides and minus 66 percent for particulates in comparison with Euro V - weight savings on all components as well as optimised aerodynamics. From the front design to the aero-edge at the rear, the entire exterior has been aerodynamically improved. In addition to this savings potential, the Setra TopClass 500 offers the fuel-optimising assistance systems Predictive Powertrain Control (PPC) and Eco Driver Feedback (EDF), which help to reduce fuel consumption by a further four percent."

Predictive Powertrain Control - economical assistance for the driver

With the launch of the Predictive Powertrain Control driver assistance system, Daimler Buses brought onto the market the world's first automatic speed control function for touring coaches with integrated transmission intervention. The company is thus going one step further towards even greater fuel economy while at the same time taking the strain off the driver.

For Till Oberwörder, Head of Marketing, Sales and Aftersales at Daimler Buses, the new award delivers clear proof: "The fact that both the latest Setra series of touring coaches have won this sustainability prize in a short space of time is a source of great pride for me. It offers impressive proof that, with our state-of-the-art vehicle concepts, we are on the right track - for the brand, our customers and the environment."
