The Student Aerospace Challenge was created on the initiative of Dassault Aviation in 2006. Since then, it has enabled students in higher education to compete in a Manned Suborbital Vehicle (MSV) project.

Every year, students are provided with several work packages that cover all areas of the aerospace sector. In 2015, 17 teams competed in very diverse areas (MSV concept and predefinition, main propulsion, cabin layout, legal aspects, medical aspects, etc.).

On June 19, 2015, at the 51st Paris Air Show, the 9th competition was brought to a close with a ceremony held at the European Space Agency (ESA) pavilion. With the astronaut Michel Tognini and the Head of the ESA Education and Knowledge Management Office, Hugo Marée, in attendance, partners of the Challenge presented the six award-winning teams with official certification.

This year, the Dassault Aviation Prize was awarded to the Ensicalarium team from ISAE-Ensica for its original work on a passenger boarding and disembarking system as part of the "Concept and predefinition of the manned suborbital vehicle" work package. The in-depth research carried out by the three students caught the jury's attention.

The Student Aerospace Challenge is supported by the European Astronaut Club, Airbus Group, Dassault Aviation, ESA, the Gifas Association, the Paris Air and Space Museum, Safran and Thales.
