IHC is based in the USA; since 2009 it has been conducting international independent hospital performance ratings in 270 countries worldwide, for health insurance companies, self-insured companies and medical tourism agencies. In 2016, HYGEIA Hospital achieved the highest rating of all the licensed private hospitals in Greece and was awarded the 2016 Best International Hospital Award for Greece.

Through this distinction, the awarded hospitals are recognized as the best in terms of the quality of services they provide and the safety they offer to patients. Special attention is paid to international patients - amounting to around 200 million globally - and the effective management of their needs. This distinction is also recognized by international insurance companies and embassies around the world.

The IHC uses 20 key performance indicator (KPI) criteria to rate the hospitals. HYGEIA was selected based on a detailed assessment procedure for private healthcare units in Greece, which focused on a series of factors, such as: the range of clinical specialties, the safety of services, the effective management of international patients, the latest generation medical equipment, and the international accreditations and certifications. HYGEIA is certified to ISO 9001 (Quality Management System), 14001 (Environmental Management System), 15189 (Medical Laboratory Quality Management System) and OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series). HYGEIA is also the only hospital in Greece to have been accredited by Joint Commission International (JCI), the leading internationally recognized quality standard for the provision of safe and effective patient care.

Commenting on this award, the HYGEIA Group CEO, Mr Andreas Kartapanis, noted, 'We are extremely proud of this recognition, which reflects the top quality of the medical services offered by HYGEIA. This honor constitutes a seal of approval for international insurance companies and medical assistance organizations worldwide. At the same time, it ensures the adoption of quality healthcare standards, in line with international practices.'
