According to the data given by Conoe, 64% of used oils is produced at home but is often not disposed of properly, by giving it to the local waste collection center. In Italy, several thousand tonnes of used cooking oils end up in the environment. That same oil can be destined for the production of biofuels. Every drop of oil removed from the environment can become a fuel replacing the fossil one.

Giuseppe Ricci, Eni's Chief Refining & Marketing Officer has illustrated the recovery process of used vegetable oils for the production of high quality biofuels. 'We invented a new process to avoid closing our refineries, reconverting them for the production of biofuels. In this agreement, we are combining three aspects of sustainability: environmental, social and economic. By merging these three elements we create a new economy'. The circular economy, precisely, which is the only one possible, for a truly sustainable future.

Eni will diversify the vegetable raw materials used in its biorefineries. Along with palm oil, produced only from certified plantations, now there will be also used oils. On completion of work, in order to start the collection of used oils as soon as possible, Giacomo Rispoli, Eni's Portfolio Management & Supply and Licensing Director, urged the companies adhering to Conoe to contact his collaborators directly to start, 'beginning tomorrow, May 18', a cooperation for the purchase of used oils collected by them.
