Award-winning premiere: EnviTec plant in the USA wins the "Biogas Industry Award"

American Biogas Council praises sustainable functioning

Lohne, 10 April 2014 - Innovative, technologically advanced and sustainable - that is how the American Biogas Council (ABC) described the 541-kW EnviTec biogas plant "Lawnhurst Energy, LLC" from the Jensen family in Stanley, New York. The Biogas Industry Award was presented during the BioCycle REFOR14 West trade fair on last Tuesday, 8 April, in San Diego.

"We are proud that we have received such a renowned award together with our customer Kelley Jensen," said Roel Slotman, Head of Sales at EnviTec Biogas AG. "The plant that was put into operation in the autumn of 2013 managed to impress the jury in the Agriculture category primarily because of its sustainable functioning," explained Patrick Serfass, ABC Executive Director, at the time of presenting the award. It is only the second plant in the State of New York to create green energy with a fully mixed digester. American plants are typically operated on the basis of what is referred to as a "plug flow" process.

Donald Jensen, who is the owner of Lawnhurst Farm, a family-run dairy farm that has been in operation since 1949, contracted the construction project of the awarded biogas plant in summer 2012. The plant primarily uses dairy cattle slurry, fats and food waste. The Jensens' plant already made positive headlines in the American media at the end of the year and also earned followers.
Dairy farmer Christopher Noble is following the example of the Jensen family and is planning a biogas plant with a planned capacity of 400 kW on his farm in Linwood, New York, along with EnviTec. The plant is to be operated mainly with the input of cattle slurry, waste silage and food waste.

The Lohne-based company supports its American customers through the company-owned branch office EnviTec Biogas USA Inc. in Rochester, New York.
