ENVITEC BIOGAS AG More than 24 million kilowatt-hours' electricity from poultry dung
Lohne, 4 July 2014 - This is the first contract that has been signed by EnviTec Biogas in the Philippines: The planned 6 MW peak load biogas plant in Candelaria, Quezon province, is supposed to deliver more than 24 million kilowatt-hours of green energy after its completion. The customer is FQBC, First Quenzon Biogas Corporation, a consortium of local poultry owners. As early as 2012, the members of the cooperative had approached Carbon Footprint Solutions Inc., a solution provider and developer for renewable energy projects in the Philippines, and south east Asia, to make practical use the annually accumulating 22,000 tonnes of poultry dung and 30,000 tonnes of rice and corn straw through waste-to-energy.
"The agrarian country of the Philippines offers an enormous potential for use of bio-energy," says Roel Slotman, Chief Commercial Officer of the Lower Saxony-based biogas all-rounder. Slotman believes that in addition to the utilisation of livestock biomass, sugarcane industry and rice production could be a good source of biomass which can be used as input materials. The Philippines have already drafted a climate bill in 2009, in which green energies play a leading role. By 2030, the capacities of renewables energies are to be increased from the current 5.4 gigawatts to a total of 15.6 gigawatts, thereby contributing to the energy security of the country.
The planned First Philippines Biogas Day of July 30th in Los Banos, is also largely focused on energy security and renewable energies. "We are active here together with our local partner Carbon Footprint Solutions and we are currently preparing a public information and discussion forum to get the possible business partners, customers and farmers talking to each other," says EnviTec Country Manager Marcello Barbato.
One of the most important step for establishing renewable energies in the Philippines was already made in July 2012 with the adoption of the first fixed feed-in tariffs for solar, hydro and wind energy as well as biomass and biogas. According to the information provided by the Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), the Philippine Ministry of Energy intends to install at least 276 MW of additional capacity from biomass and biogas over the next three years.
