New EnviTec biogas plant in Durham, England

EnviTec Biogas scores with waste-to-energy technology and pasteurisation

Lohne, 3rd February 2015 - The recently completed construction project of EnviTec Biogas AG, in Great Britain has an installed capacity of 499 kW. The combined heat and power plant (CHP) at High Hedley Hope Farm in Durham, in North-East England, started supplying power to the grid at the beginning of December 2014.

The plant which is operated with food waste, cattle manure, chicken manure and cattle slurry primarily scores with the EnviTec pasteurisation technology. "The pasteurisation of the food waste substrate plays a major role, especially in the case of waste-to-energy plants", explains Roel Slotman, sales director of the Biogas all-rounder from Lower Saxony. Organic waste must be cleaned so that it is hygienically harmless and free of pathogens. The technical standard for waste-to-energy plants is high, as plastic packaging and other materials are non-digestable waste, which must be removed before fermentation using a de-packaging machine, for example. Wherever possible the plastics will be re-cycled.

The project investors, WJ Drennan Limited, were particularly impressed with the flexibility and accuracy of the planning of the plant that was ordered in March 2014. "EnviTec examined all the local characteristics and existing substrates thoroughly in advance", explains Will Drennan. This process finally convinced the investor because existing waste materials can only be optimally used for power generation if tailor-made concepts and plants are in place.

EnviTec Biogas UK remains in charge of the construction of the plant until the turnkey delivery is finally executed onsite. The biogas all-rounder is represented in Rugeley, Staffordshire, with a total of seven employees. Here, the biogas plant construction company that is headquartered in Lohne offers consulting, sales, as well as service and maintenance provided by EnviTec Biogas Service UK. In all, EnviTec Biogas has already set up nine plants with an installed total output of 6.8 MW in England - a number that continues to grow.
