NEWTOWN, Pa., April 04, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- EPAM Systems (NYSE:EPAM), a leading global provider of product development and software engineering solutions, today announced that it received the Red Dot award for its work on the Aero Wireless Speaker, a product of legendary British loudspeaker manufacturer Mission. The Red Dot award is the international distinction for high design quality.

EPAM worked with International Audio Group (IAG), a pioneer in Audio/Visual equipment, to innovate its loudspeaker brand, Mission's Aero Wireless Speaker. The already established leader of hi-fi sound needed a wireless speaker that could rival its hard-wired technology. EPAM used its expertise in Industrial and Service Design and application development to deliver an elegant, minimalist, class-leading wireless music system and worked with Mission on not only the speaker design but also strategy and engineering, website and packaging development and streaming application design.

'Winning the Red Dot award for our work with IAG Mission's Aero Wireless Speaker is a testament to our capabilities in Industrial and Service Design. Our expertise supports the blurring between digital and physical products and we focus on ensuring that our clients' products connect to customers on a functional and emotional level and deliver on their strategic intent,' said Matt Farrar, VP, Service Design, EPAM.

'EPAM has been a valued partner in creating new products and services under the Mission brand. They have been instrumental in helping Mission to appeal to a new audience of tech and design savvy consumers, as well as retaining our established traditional hi-fi customer base,' said Tim Chang, Director, International Audio Group. 'EPAM's ability to offer full end-to-end service design, industrial design and engineering under 'one roof' has delivered a consistent user experience and design language across all touchpoints, from the AERO wireless speaker to the control app, product website and in-store point of sale. Additional to design, EPAM's core understanding and delivery capability in software engineering has resulted in a fully harmonized approach across all the product development disciplines, which few companies have mastered. The award-winning new products stemming from this approach speak for themselves.'

Participants from 57 nations registered a total of 5,214 products and innovations for the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2016. Only products which set themselves apart considerably through their excellent design receive the sought-after quality seal from the international Red Dot jury. The independent expert panel assesses each entry strictly and fairly, live and on site, according to criteria such as degree of innovation, formal quality, functionality and ecological compatibility.

Professor Dr. Peter Zec, founder and president of the Red Dot Award said, 'With their performances, the Red Dot winners not only demonstrated an extraordinary design quality, but they also showed that design is an integral part of innovative product solutions.'

During the awards ceremony on July 4, 2016, the award winners will accept their trophies in front of 1,200 guests. At the subsequent after-show party 'Designers' Night', the winners will receive their certificates and celebrate in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen in the midst of prize-winning products. All award-winning products will be presented in the special exhibition 'Design on Stage' for four weeks, before becoming part of the permanent exhibition.

About the Red Dot Design Award
In order to appraise the wide scope of design in a professional manner, the Red Dot Design Award is broken down into the three distinct disciplines: the Red Dot Award: Product Design, Red Dot Award: Communication Design and Red Dot Award: Design Concept. The Red Dot Award is organised by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Essen, Germany. With more than 17,000 entries in 2015 alone, it is one of the largest competitions in the world. It was in 1955 that a jury convened for the first time to assess the best designs of the day. The name and brand of the award were developed in the 1990s by Red Dot CEO, Professor Dr. Peter Zec. Since then the sought-after 'Red Dot' is the revered international seal of outstanding design quality. Further information: www.red-dot.org.
