EVA Unveils Meal Service Series for Royal Laurel Class Diners Grammy Award nominee creates new design for inflight dining

TAIPEI, (February 12, 2015) - Taiwan-based EVA Air unveiled a  new "Story Island - Round the World" inflight meal service series designed by renowned album cover designer and four-time Grammy Award nominee Xiao Qing-Yang on February 10, 2015. The specially created tablecloth, menus and wine list will be introduced in EVA's Royal Laurel, Premium Laurel and Business Class cabins, starting March 1, 2015.

Xiao is Taiwan's first Grammy-nominated album cover designer. He has won numerous awards for his artwork, including a Chicago Athenaeum Good Design Award and an Independent Music Award for Album Packaging Design. He created the designs for EVA as an extension of his "Story Island" series, an elegant collection of visual images that reflect the artist's appreciation of natural beauty and concerns about environmental deterioration.

For EVA's new "Story Island - Round the World" tablecloth, menus and wine list, Xiao used traditional Chinese paper-cutting techniques to depict Taiwan and its unique fauna. The design features Taiwan in its center, surrounded by native species such as dragonflies, Formosan sika deer and butterflies, set on a background of warm, natural earth tones selected to enrich the cabin environment. Xiao also enlarged the menu size to better showcase the airline's inflight gourmet selections and used four different colors on the covers to correspond to seasonal changes. The design captures the EVA spirit, flying from Taiwan and caring about the earth and its many creatures.

"We are delighted to be working with Mr. Xiao Qing-Yang," said EVA President Austin Cheng. "He is a tremendous designer and we have always admired his work. Now, we have the opportunity to do something together. His 'Story Island' series is a perfect match for EVA and the design he has created for us is a beautiful representation of our spirit."

EVA has established a reputation for providing innovative services and giving passengers new flying experiences. In December 2013, it added gourmet pastries from French patisserie Laduree Macaron and luxurious Japanese confectionery Yoku Moku cigare to inflight meal services in its top cabins. In October 2014, it teamed up with popular Taipei dessert restaurant SEASON Artisan Pâtissier to introduce delicate after-dinner treats. Now, it is working with Michelin three-star Japanese restaurant Nakamura Kyoto Cuisine to create inflight meals. Incorporating designs by Xiao Qing-Yang is EVA's latest effort to enhance passengers' flying experiences.

EVA celebrated the Lunar New Year on outbound flights from Taipei, with the exception of its short trips to Okinawa, by adding flavors of the holiday and giving passengers in all of its cabins the opportunity to experience some of the occasion's warmth and traditional comforts. It welcomed the Lunar New Year by serving traditional New Year's dishes on February 18, the Lunar New Year's Eve. And, to bring good fortune, it offered Taiwan's traditional pineapple cake on February 19, the Lunar New Year day.
