Dr. Joseph Rakow, Mechanical Engineering Practice Director and Principal Engineer, has been named an American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Fellow. The distinction is only offered to 3% of its 130,000 members worldwide.
Dr. Rakow is a widely recognized authority in the failure analysis of composite materials and structures, and more broadly of complex engineered products and systems. He has developed novel investigative techniques and has resolved countless failures of industrial importance. Dr. Rakow educates students and professional engineers regarding failure analysis, and has responded to numerous calls from the US government to assist on pressing initiatives. Through his work, Dr. Rakow has improved the safety and reliability of products and systems across a broad range of industries, including aerospace, power generation, sporting equipment, medical devices, process machinery, and civil infrastructure.
