All tariffs for natural gas transmission services are to drop by 7% from 1 January 2015, following approval of Fluxys Belgium's tariff proposal by federal energy regulator CREG.

CREG and Fluxys Belgium have worked together closely to incorporate into the transmission tariffs the commercial efforts and the efficient cost management achieved by Fluxys in recent years. Lower financing costs have also had a positive impact.

The 7% reduction in tariffs will take effect on 1 January 2015, applies to all tariffs for transmission services and is a nominal decrease compared with the 2014 tariffs. This means that the general across-the-board reduction will be fully reflected in grid users' bills.

Thanks to this tariff drop, the share of transmission costs in the natural gas price charged to end users will decrease further. Fluxys Belgium is to publish the new indicative unitary transmission cost on its website. As part of its monitoring remit, CREG will ensure that this tariff decrease is passed on in full to consumers and companies.

Finally, the lower tariffs will strengthen the position of the Belgian transmission system as a crossroads of international gas flows in Northwest Europe. By keeping tariffs competitive, Fluxys Belgium will remain well-equipped to cope with competition from other European operators active in international gas transit, while helping to boost the competitiveness of the Belgian economy.
