On 1 September 2015, 12 industrial customers in the Olen-Tessenderlo-Lommel triangle were successfully switched from low-calorific natural gas to high-calorific natural gas. This is one of a series of conversions that is due to take place in the next few years. These conversions are necessary because the Dutch government has decided to fully phase out the export of low-calorific natural gas to Belgium and France between 2024 and 2030. Gas from Groningen currently accounts for approximately a third of Belgium's gas supply.

With that in mind, Belgium is preparing for a gradual switch from Dutch natural gas to natural gas from other sources available to the country. A conversion plan for the changeover is being drawn up in partnership with the other Belgian gas sector players and the Belgian authorities. After thorough preparations with the relevant industries, the conversion went smoothly on 1 September of the customers who are supplied by three Fluxys pipelines (Ham-Geel-Olen, Lommel-Balen-Mol and Kwaadmechelen-Tessenderlo).
