Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas : The National Law Courts building, built by FCC, certifies its Universal Accessibility

The National Law Courts building, built by FCC, has received the Universal Accessibility certificate from AENOR. The certificate, based on the Spanish UNE 170001-2 standard, accredits horizontal and vertical mobility in all the spaces in the National Law Courts for persons in wheelchairs, for example, with a lift that facilitates access to the main building for all users. Likewise, the courtrooms have devices that allow the hard of hearing to hear.

This project undertaken by FCC consisted of the rehabilitation of the existing building in the Calle García Gutiérrez 1, inaugurated in 1976, which had an area of 9,924 m² on two floors below ground level and nine above.

FCC had to demolish the entire building, including the floor structures, maintaining only the steel pillars and beams, and rebuild the building's horizontal structure and increasing its height above ground level by two more floors, thus increasing the total built area to 11,472 m².

FCC also worked on the old car park on three levels under the Plaza de la Villa de París, where it had to demolish all the intermediate floor structures and create an area of great height (hearing rooms) and another area on two levels. It also built a connecting tunnel between both buildings and created separate accesses for the public and police vans.
