Galliford Try Partnerships has commenced work on its latest development for ExtraCare Charitable Trust (ECCT) in Solihull.

Solihull Retirement Village will comprise 261 apartments over a maximum of 12 floors, with ECCT working in partnership with Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council.

The £47m contract represents the eleventh retirement village constructed by Galliford Try Partnerships on behalf of ECCT. Work commenced in March 2018 and the project has a 30-month build programme.
The village will provide homes to local people aged 55+ and it is expected to welcome its first residents in 2019/20. The village will provide a range of communal social and leisure facilities which will be open to residents, their families and members of the local community. These will include a village hall, library and IT suite, bar and bistro, fitness gym, hairdressing and beauty salon and shop.

Situated in nearly four acres on the former Powergen site, the village is on the corner of Stratford Road and Haslucks Green Road, approximately 10 minutes from the M42 and an easy bus ride away from central Birmingham. The 261 apartments will be available for open-market purchase, shared ownership and affordable rent.

James Warrington, Divisional Director at Galliford Try Partnerships, said: 'We are very pleased to be working again with ExtraCare Charitable Trust on this flagship scheme in Solihull. Having worked with the Trust many times before, we have an excellent understanding of their requirements. As a business, we look to build, create and continue relationships that support our clients. This is particularly evident with ExtraCare Charitable Trust as we have recently established a Strategic Alliance which allows us to focus on delivering an outstanding development for them.'

Kevin Willetts, Executive Director of Development, Sales and Procurement at ExtraCare Charitable Trust said: 'The ExtraCare Charitable Trust is a charity committed to supporting a new kind of retirement living where older people are placed at the heart of community life. This village will enable residents and the wider neighbourhood, representing all generations, to share activities skills and social opportunities. Research tells us that environments which facilitate independence, activity and choice significantly improve the lives of older people - and that is precisely what this inspirational community sets out to achieve.'
