The Mexican Energy Regulation Commission (CRE) has awarded the natural gas supply service for a new distribution zone comprising two states in the north-west of the country with a potential market of 500,000 customers to GAS NATURAL FENOSA.

The company will invest 11.5 million euros over five years to undertake an expansion of the natural gas distribution network in seven municipalities in the states of Sonora and Sinaloa (north Pacific coast).

The new distribution zone includes the municipalities of Cajeme and Navojoa, in Sonora; and Ahome, Choix, El Fuerte, Guasave and Salvador Alvarado, in Sinaloa. All of them are located at the heart of one of the richest farming regions in the country, whose food industries require high energy consumption.

Through Gas Natural México, GAS NATURAL FENOSA will build up the distribution system and will assume responsibility for the reception, piping and delivery of natural gas along 500 kilometres of gas pipelines.

Increased presence in the North American country

Allocation of this new distribution zone in Mexico represents a new milestone for operations by GAS NATURAL FENOSA in the North American country and reinforces its commitment to development in Mexico and quality of life for its citizens.

GAS NATURAL FENOSA is the leading natural gas distributor in Mexico, where it began operating 15 years ago. These new distribution zones in Mexico join the six where the company already operates in Mexico to serve almost 1.4 million customers - now in 11 states - via more than 17,000 kilometres of network. In addition, the multinational energy company operates four combined cycle power plants in Mexico with a total electricity generation capacity of over 2,000 MW and a wind farm with a capacity of 234 MW.
