  • GAS NATURAL FENOSA has been organising this biennial art event since 1989 to promote and raise the profile of emergingartistic talent.

Earlier today, the Gas Natural Fenosa Contemporary Art Museum (MAC) opened the 14th edition of its biennial contemporary art exhibition - the Gas Natural Fenosa International Art Exhibition, which comprises a total of 50 pieces chosen by the panel from among the 639 entered into the competition by Spanish artists or artists living in Spain. The exhibition will remain open to the public in the exhibition space of the Gas Natural Fenosa Contemporary Art Museum in A Coruña until 4 December.

14 editions in over 25 years guarantee the Gas Natural Fenosa International Art Exhibition as a national benchmark and a platform for emerging talent in the contemporary art world, as well as a consolidated art space recognised by artists, critics and the public alike. Over the course of its history, the Exhibition has gradually expanded its artistic and geographic scope, keeping up with the contemporary artistic trends. The 14 editions of the event have provided a platform for presenting more than 8,000 pieces by artists and GAS NATURAL FENOSA has purchased over 200 of them for its Contemporary Art Collection.

The Gas Natural Fenosa Art Exhibition

The first Gas Natural Fenosa Art Exhibition took place in August 1989, at the Estación Marítima of the port of A Coruña. It was then defined as a biennial painting and sculpture event open to Galician artists, with the double purpose of promoting new local talent and creating a collection of contemporary art.

In 1993, the Exhibition became national in scope and saw record participation, with nearly 1,300 works presented for the competition. Two years later, the Gas Natural Fenosa Museum of Contemporary Art was opened with a exhibition containing a selection of the works acquired at the three Art Exhibitions that had been held to date. In 2006, coinciding with the ninth edition, the Exhibition, now well-established in Spain, was opened to international artists and awarded three prizes.

Commitment to society and the cultural sector in Galicia

The Gas Natural Fenosa Museum of Contemporary Art (MAC) is a multidisciplinary centre for contemporary culture. It is a dynamic, flexible and open space that combines exhibitions with public involvement and participation, with the goal to stimulate artistic creation in all areas of culture.

Over the years, MAC has consolidated its status not only as an exhibition venue but also as a meeting place for artists, art-lovers and the public, offering an extensive programme of cultural, educational, social and artistic activities that include temporary exhibitions, lecture series and workshops for schools and professionals. The museum is also extremely active in the field of social action activities, with a unique contemporary art-based social participation programme for people with disabilities.
