• The interruption time equivalent to installed capacity (ITEPI) - the indicator that measures service quality - has improved by 61% over the last decade in Castile-La Mancha.

Unión Fenosa Distribución, the electricity distribution subsidiary of GAS NATURAL FENOSA, will invest approximately 190 million euros between 2016 and 2019 to maintain and strengthen its electricity infrastructures in Castile-La Mancha and improve the quality of the service it provides to the 620,000 customers in the region who are connected to its networks.

This information was provided earlier today by the Castile Zone Director of Unión Fenosa Distribución, Sergio Arana, at a press briefing in Toledo, where he was accompanied by the Minister for Economic Affairs and Employment of the Regional Government of Castile-La Mancha, Patricia Franco.

The distribution company will invest 43.3 million euros in 2016 and nearly 147 million in the three-year period 2017-2019, according to the plan recently approved by the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism.

New projects

In addition to the recurring investments on maintenance and network upgrades, a number of other outstanding projects will be carried out in Castile-La Mancha over the coming years.

The largest project in the next few years will be a new substation in Bolaños de Calatrava and the 132 kV power line that will connect the town to Moral de Calatrava. This project has been allocated a budget in excess of eight million euros and is expected to begin in 2018. The new facility will help increase medium- and high-voltage network capacity around Almagro and Bolaños, guaranteeing the connection of future growth in the area and strengthening supply guarantees.

Over the course of next year, construction will begin in Guadalajara on the new Fuentes de la Alcarria-Fuentes de la Niña power line (23 kilometres), which will strengthen electricity supply to the city of Guadalajara and its surrounding area against possible contingencies.

Supply quality

The investments scheduled up to 2019 will help increase supply quality in those areas where Unión Fenosa Distribución supplies electricity.

The company has made substantial improvements to the interruption time equivalent to medium-voltage installed capacity (Spanish acronym: TIEPI) in Castile-La Mancha, the main indicator of service quality. Between 2006 and 2015, the TIEPI fell by 61% to stand at 0.79 hours last year. In the two provinces with the largest number of customers (Ciudad Real and Toledo), the TIEPI improved by 60% (0.73 hours in 2015) and 62% (0.78 hours in 2015). Cuenca and Guadalajara posted similar interruption percentage reductions.
