Huber+Suhner AG : HUBER+SUHNER wins CHF 60 million broadband power line project in Malaysia

Realm Energy/JSR Sdn Bhd (RESB) awarded HUBER+SUHNER to design, supply, install, test and commission the fiber optic part of its Broadband Powerline (BPL) Project. The project intends to bring broadband internet connections at an affordable price to more than two million Malaysian households. The BPL technology uses existing power lines to transmit the signal over the last mile at data rates of up to 16 megabit per second. The Malaysian BPL project is one of the largest of its kind in the world.

The Letter of Award commissions HUBER+SUHNER to equip 5,000 sites within the next three and a half years with state of the art fiber optic solutions. This project represents a value of CHF 60 million. The end to end fiber optic links will connect existing power stations and substations to optimize network capacity and to ensure a reliable and durable high quality data transmission.

BPL technology can be scaled from simple control functions to data networking and distribution of real-time streaming. Internet service provider are able to offer broadband Internet access, telephony, HD television and smart appliances for homes via BPL.
