INPEX Opens Office in Astana, the Republic of Kazakhstan


Tokyo, Japan - INPEX CORPORATION (INPEX) announced today that it opened its office in the Republic of Kazakhstan in Astana. Through this most recently added office in Astana, INPEX will promote developing giant Kashagan Oil Field in the Offshore North Caspian Sea Contract Area (the Area).


INPEX acquired an interest in the Area in 1998 and confirmed Kashagan Oil Field in 2000, followed by an announcement of commercial discoveries in 2002. Currently, the development works of the Kashagan Oil Field is ongoing.

Besides the Kashagan Oil Field, hydrocarbon reserves were also confirmed in four other structures: Kashagan Southwest, Aktote, Kairan and Kalamkas. Appraisal work of these structures is continuing in parallel with the development of the main Kashagan Oil Field with a view to expanding the total production of the Area.


INPEX will continue to proceed its development activities in Kazakhstan.
