TOKYO-August 5, 2015-Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ, NASDAQ: IIJI, TSE1: 3774), one of Japan's leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, and its 100% owned subsidiary IIJ Global Solutions Inc. (IIJ Global)-provider of WAN services for corporate clients- today announced the September 1, 2015, launch of "@WiFi", a cloud-managed WLAN (wireless LAN) service, which will enable corporate customers to implement WLAN environments easily.

The service will provide everything required for WLAN environments-equipment procurement, implementation, and post-deployment operations management-all at low cost and from a one-stop shop. Via its cloud computing infrastructure, IIJ Global will centrally manage configurations relating to WLAN access points on behalf of customers. This will allow customers to begin using a high-speed WLAN environment just by connecting a device to its LAN, and at the same time reducing initial cost and operational overhead.

Features
  • Reduces customers' operational overhead

When a WLAN access point is connected to the Internet via a LAN cable, the access point automatically downloads configurations from the cloud. Because IIJ Global manages the settings data in the cloud, customers do not need to perform on-site work to update software or settings, reducing operational complexity.

  • Reduces initial investment costs through assetless operations

IIJ Global provides the service for a single monthly fee that includes the cost of equipment, software, operations, and help desk support. Customers can start with a small implementation at a low-cost and then scale up their WLAN environments as required with no IT asset management.

  • Offers support 24 hours a day, 365 days a year

The help desks at IIJ Global's support center are able to respond to any problem, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Service Types

Customers can choose from two service types, depending on their purposes and installation site conditions.

  • Type-M

Type-M employs Cisco Systems' cloud networking WLAN products, the Cisco Meraki series, which allows in-store customers to connect to Wi-Fi by checking in on the store's Facebook page. Wi-Fi with Facebook Login lets the store use its Wi-Fi service as a marketing tool. Furthermore, by combining Type-M with a dedicated power supply, the service can be deployed even in environments in which construction to add power outlets would be difficult.
Monthly usage fees from JPY 3,860 (tax excluded)

  • Type-S

Type-S employs IIJ's proprietary "SA-W1" cloud-based service adaptor, and the service is best suited for customers that want to use a secure, high-speed WLAN environment while keeping monthly fees low. IIJ Global plans to offer Type-S starting in late October 2015.
Monthly usage fees from JPY 2,500 (planned price, tax excluded)

    * SA-W1: A service adaptor product that provides WLAN access point and WAN VPN router functions.

By combining "@WiFi" with the "SmartWAN" (managed WAN service also provided by IIJ Global), customers can centrally manage WLAN environment operations at multiple sites.

IIJ Global will continue to enhance its lineup of services to match customers' needs and to contribute to the growth of their businesses.
