ITOCHU Corporation (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo; Masahiro Okafuji, President & CEO; hereinafter 'ITOCHU') announced today that the commercial operation of the Shin-Okayama Solar Power Plant (see press release dated December 8, 2014) has commenced as a joint project with Fuyo General Lease Co., Ltd. and Ene One Solar Co., Ltd. (a joint venture of Saisan Co., Ltd. and Shinwa Energy Inc.), and the inauguration ceremony was held today.
The utility-scale solar power plant has a power generation capacity of approximately 37,000 kilowatts and is located in Okayama City, Okayama Prefecture. Its average annual power output is expected to be approximately 43 million kilowatt-hours which is equivalent to the annual power consumption of approximately 7,600 standard homes.
Upon completion of the power plant, ITOCHU operates three utility-scale solar power plants in Japan, including two other plants in Ehime and Oita. Once the construction of another plant in Saga is completed, ITOCHU's total solar power generation capacity will be about 130,000 kilowatts in Japan. Thereafter, ITOCHU aims to expand its solar power generation capacity to 200,000 kilowatts.
ITOCHU will continue to proactively promote the renewable energy power generation business globally, so as to contribute to the establishment of a recycling-oriented society while taking into account environmental conservation issues such as the prevention of global warming.
