KAO CORPORATION - Fortifying Categories with Surging Demand in China, and Producing High Value-added Products Responsive to the Environment -
On May 7, 2015, Kao Corporation (President and CEO: Michitaka Sawada) held the completion ceremony of a new chemical products plant for Kao (Shanghai) Chemical Industries Co., Ltd. (President: Mitsutoshi Nakajima). The ceremony was conducted at the new plant constructed at Shanghai Fine Chemical Industrial Park (Jinshan District, Shanghai). The completion of the new plant increases Kao Group's production base for chemical products in China to a total of three plants with Kao Chemical Corporation Shanghai (located in Minhang District, Shanghai; plant completed in May 1997) and Huludao Jinxing Casting Materials Co., Ltd. (located in Huludao, Liaoning Province; plant completed in December 2012). The initial investment for the new plant amounts to approximately five billion yen.
Produced at the new plant are surfactants, which are key materials for daily-use products including shampoo and laundry detergent, and highly functional chemical products for industrial use, developed with Kao's proprietary technology, for rapidly growing industries in China including automobiles, electronic materials, and precision devices. The new plant will consecutively provide these industrial products to the related markets starting May 2015.
Moreover, this new plant will play a role as a core plant for product development to meet the needs of the Chinese market, such as eco-friendly products with a lower environmental burden, by leveraging environment technology Kao has developed in Japan, and those products that will lead to enhanced environmental values for each customer's business.
To achieve profitable growth globally, Kao Group positions "Reinforce the Chemical Business" as one of its growth strategies. Specifically, in the fast-growing Asian markets, Kao will actively continue to invest in production facilities for the chemical business to promote its business expansion in growing markets.
