CITYMARKETS TO SUPPORT GIRLS' RIGHTS

07.12.2017

Plan International Finland and K Group are bringing 'Girls Can' donation cards to K-Citymarkets. Proceeds from the cards go towards supporting equality for girls in developing countries. The cards can be purchased at all K-Citymarkets from 11

December 2017 onwards.

In developing countries, girls are often at a disadvantage compared to boys when it comes to exercising their rights and opportunities. That is why the children's rights organisation Plan International is especially focused on improving the lives and protection of girls. The funds collected through the sale of the 'Girls Can' cards will go projects promoting the protection and education of girls in developing countries.

"This type of co-operation is a great way to help permanently change the lives of many girls in developing countries and increase equality around the world. It has been proven that educating girls is one of the most effective means of erasing poverty and problems arising from poverty," says Ossi Heinänen, Secretary General of Plan International Finland.

K Group is committed to supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in its operations. The goals promote, among other things, responsible consumption, decent work for all, economic growth, and climate action. K Group and Plan International Finland have been collaborating for several years.

"At K Group, corporate responsibility work is integrated into our day-to-day activities. The 'Girls Can' cards are a natural continuation to our long-standing collaboration with Plan. They provide our customers an easy and reliable way to support equality for girls during an ordinary shopping trip," says Matti Kalervo, Vice President of Corporate Responsibility at K Group.

The price of one single-use donation card is 10 euros. The buyer can keep the card as a memento or give it to someone else as a gift.

"The 'Girls Can' donation cards make excellent intangible gifts for friends or teachers, for example," says Ossi Heinänen.
