Kesko Oyj : receives recognition again as a front-runner in climate work

Thousands of companies annually submit information to CDP on their work in climate change mitigation and the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions. CDP's climate change, forests and water programs helps businesses submit data to investors.

Kesko was the only retail company in Finland that reached the Leadership level in CDP's 2017 Climate questionnaire. Kesko received the A- score.

The companies that reached the Leadership level (A and A-) were seen to represent best practice to advance environmental stewardship, to thoroughly understand the risks and opportunities related to climate change, as well as to formulate and implement strategies to mitigate or capitalize on these risks and opportunities.

Kesko is the first Finnish company to set emission targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative to reduce emissions from stores, logistics and the supply chain. To achieve these ambitious emission reduction targets, Kesko will increase its use of renewable energy while also improving its energy efficiency.

All electricity purchased by Kesko in Finland has been renewable since the beginning of 2017. Kesko purchases Nordic renewable energy with Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGO).

With a total of 16 solar power plants on the rooftops of grocery stores built by Kesko, Kesko is the biggest producer and consumer of solar power in Finland.

The K Group (Kesko and K-stores) is committed to the 2017-2025 action plan included in the commerce sector's Energy Efficiency Agreement. In accordance with the agreement, the K Group has made a commitment to reduce its energy consumption through various savings measures by 7.5%, which amounts to approximately 79 GWh. The agreement covers all of the K Group's store chains.
