Lightbridge Corporation Senior Advisor Hans Blix, Ph.D., former head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, will call for expanded support of new nuclear power technology, including thorium power, at the Thorium Energy Conference 2013, October 27-31, at the CERN Globe of Science and Innovation, Geneva, Switzerland.

In the abstract of his remarks, which will be delivered October 29, Dr. Blix says, "...we should welcome the broad research, development and testing of new technologies that go on around the world, e.g. fusion, breeder reactors and generation IV. The thorium option offers the world not only a new sustainable supply of fuel for nuclear power but also one that makes better use of the fuel's energy content. Even more important, the thorium option holds promise for wastes that become harmless within a few hundred years and this at volumes that are not very large."

An advisor to Lightbridge since 2008 and former Foreign Minister of Sweden, Dr. Blix has been at the forefront of international nuclear issues for decades. He served 16 years as Director General of the IAEA, where he was responsible for overhauling the agency's inspection system to adhere to more stringent standards. From 2000 to 2003, Dr. Blix was Chief Weapons Inspector and Executive Chair of the United Nations Monitoring, Verification, and Inspection Commission in Iraq.

The Thorium Energy Conference 2013 will address national and international cooperative programs on thorium technologies, new concepts of thorium power reactors, the neutron physics of thorium reactors, the thorium fuel cycle and elimination of nuclear waste, materials technology, and non-proliferation, safety and safety regulations of thorium systems.

In addition to Lightbridge's proprietary uranium-zirconium metallic nuclear fuel design, the Company has patented and is developing three thorium-based fuel designs. The safety, economic and operating benefits of the Lightbridge thorium-based fuel designs are outlined at http://ltbridge.com/technologyservices/fueltechnology/thoriumbasedseedandblanketfuel
