Local Lloyds staff hit the phones for charity

Lloyds staff across the UK will play a pivotal role in raising money for Save The Children, this Sunday. More than 2,200 volunteers in total, from Lloyds Banking Group, will be taking phone donations during the series finale of ITV1’s hit entertainment show ‘Born to Shine’, where talented young people mentor celebrities as they learn a new skill and raise money for the charity.

The series, currently on air, will conclude on Sunday 21 August from 7.30pm, with a fundraising extravaganza featuring live performances from the five finalists, including actor Nick Moran, actress Tracy-Ann Oberman, comedian Jason Manford, rugby player Gareth Thomas and Emmerdale’s Lesley Dunlop and Tony Audenshaw. . Viewers will be encouraged to donate throughout the show with Lloyds Banking Group employees manning the call centres on the night.

Volunteers will take public donations from nineteen different Lloyds TSB, Halifax and Bank of Scotland call centres across the UK, including England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Save the Children is the world’s largest independent children’s charity, helping children in the UK and around the world in 120 countries. Its aim is to save 15 million lives by 2015, and the more money raised through ‘Born to Shine,’ the more children’s lives will be saved. This show will help to raise awareness of the struggle faced by children across the world, many of whom never get the chance to shine,

and contribute significant funds to help Save the Children continue their vital work.

Save the Children is Lloyds Banking Group’s Charity of the Year for 2011, and is aiming to raise at least £1 million to fund 52 Save the Children Families and Schools Together (FAST) projects, in some of the UK’s most disadvantaged areas. In addition to providing volunteering support for the Born to Shine campaign, current FAST projects being assisted by Lloyds Banking Group include the Sacred Heart Primary School in Belfast, Abbey Park Primary in Halifax, and in September 2011, further schools will be added in Cardiff and Glasgow amongst others.

Paul Turner, Lloyds Banking Group Community Investment and Sustainable Development Director said: “Supporting Save the Children in this initiative is particularly exciting for us because the show is the first of its kind and, as our chosen Charity of the Year, we are glad to be actively contributing our time to it. The involvement of so many local colleagues is especially important as it reflects the widespread involvement and the appeal this project has.”

Douglas Rouse, Corporate Partnerships Director at Save the Children, said: “We are delighted that Lloyds Banking Group is our exclusive call centre partner for Born to Shine. They have been incredibly generous in providing their call centres at no

cost and we have had overwhelming support from their employees with over

2,200 people volunteering to take donations during the live final.

“Save the Children believes that every child should have the chance to fulfil their potential. Lloyds Banking Group is helping us to make a tremendous difference to the lives of children both here in the UK and around the world and we are very grateful

for their support.”
