The 22nd China Metallurgical Construction Group (22MCC Group) announced that, it overcame the manufacturing difficulties of the irregularly-shaped structure of the large truss under Stage B of the 3rd Phase Works of China International Trade Centre on December 4, 2014.
Located in the core area of CBD in Beijing, this project is to be completed in Stage A and Stage B. The Stage A consists of the tallest tower building (with a height of 330m) in Beijing, a four-storey commercial podium building, a four-storey building for catering and banquet and a four-storey basement, covering a total floorage area of 296,500 square meters and being completed in 2010. The Stage B consists of a 58-storey comprehensive building, a seven-storey commercial podium building, a five-storey supportive building for hotel, a four-storey basement and the overall demolishment of the previous Beijing Traders Hotel, covering a total floorage area of 223,600 square meters. After completion of Stage B, the land area covered by China International Trade Centre will reach up to 170,000 square meters. Together with the 1st and the 2nd phases, it will form an architectural complex of 1.1 million square meters, which will be deemed to be the worldwide largest trade center. The Metal Structure Company of 22MCC Group was awarded with the contract for manufacturing of steel structure (with a total weight of over 2,800 tons) for the tower building, the podium building and all the single buildings under Stage B.
Under Stage B of the 3rd Phase Works of China International Trade Centre, the truss level is equipped with middle truss and outrigger truss, of which the largest one is over 40 tons in weight. The pitch points are anomaly complicated, the large one of which is integrated with I-shaped, cross-shaped and irregularly-shaped parts, and the assembly shall be undertaken for 7 to 8 times. The manufacturing period for a single column is as long as two months. Moreover, the maximum thickness of the steel plate is 100mm, the space for welding operation is limited, the welded parts can be easily deformed, therefore it is very difficult for operation.
The Metal Structure Company of 22MCC Group strictly complied with the construction process, made appropriate adjustment on the assembly sequences. To cope with the difficult problem of the limited space for welding operation, they adopted a circulating mode of assembly, welding, flaw detection and maintenance, and completed the overall assembly at the final stage. To cope with the deforming problem, they strictly complied with the pre-heating, post-heating and thermal insulation welding procedures, and made reasonable adjustment on the welding current. During the whole manufacturing process, they stick to the high standard and strict requirements, made continuous improvement on the quality and technical process control, and eventually overcame the manufacturing difficulties of the irregularly-shaped structure of the large truss. As a result, this has laid a firm foundation for the smooth follow-up project implementation.
