On April 21st, the 1,700mm Hot Rolling Plant of Jinan Steel successfully completed the manufacture of a batch of hot-rolled coils with a thickness of 1.5-1.8mm. Since batch production was achieved in July of the previous year, the fabrication of sheets with a thickness below 2.0mm has become a major income creation point for Jinan Steel. Two years ago, Jinan Steel was incapable of producing batches of steel sheets with a thickness below 2.5mm due to limited equipment capacity. After CISDI completed the wholly domestic reconstruction of its rolling line equipment and control systems, Jinan Steel made up for its shortcomings and enhanced the competitiveness of its products.
The domestic hot rolling control technology market is monopolized by well-known overseas companies. Most steel enterprises fail to fully master the core technology, resulting in high construction costs and difficulties in developing products of high added-value. Aiming at market demands and giving play to its technical advantages, CISDI spent over a decade researching and successfully developing the hot-rolled model and quality control system with independent IPRs.
The hot-rolled model and quality control system has the advantages of advanced technology, strong adaptability and high standardization; it is capable of completing all control tasks in the hot-rolling production workshop and achieving the integration of management and control. With the adoption of modular structure, it can be applied to the production lines of hot rolled strip steel in various process layout forms after receiving streamlined configurations. Integrating many process, control and production technologies, it is adaptable to various condition changes and is especially beneficial for the development of new products. In addition, its setup parameters can be adjusted in a dynamic way according to the size of the material and the temperature variation in order to increase its production adaptability and ensure the precision and performance of finished products.
This system has successfully broken the overseas monopoly and reached an international advanced level, thereby supporting the promotion of the hot-rolling process and enhancing the competitiveness of its products. In recent years, the system has been applied to several newly-built or reconstructed production lines including Bayi Steel, Jinan Steel, Ningbo Steel and Yan Steel. After its successful reconstruction, the hot-rolling plant of Jinan Steel achieved a substantial extension of is varieties and specifications, saw a sharp rise in product quality and is now capable of selling or directly supplying cold-rolled materials without the need for leveling and with costs reduced by RMB 70-80/ton. The Yan Steel hot-rolling plant went into operation on Oct. 22nd, 2013. Fully automated rolling was achieved during hot commissioning for the line's first piece of steel. In 2014, its annual output reached 3,550kt, 550kt greater than its designed capacity. In 2015, its maximum monthly output reached 389kt. The replacement of the line's automated system and the commissioned reconstruction of Ningbo Steel's hot-rolling plant took just 10 days and it subsequently reached its designed capacity within one month, hitting a new record for domestic hot-rolling reconstruction. In Jan. 2015, the plant achieved an output of 410kt, its largest output since it went into operation in 2007.
