MCC17 Completes Pouring for First Bridge Extension Foundation of Kuwait 6.5 Ring Road Project

+ . -

On June 12th, the MCC17 Group completed the concrete pouring of the first bridge extension foundation in the Kuwait 6.5 Ring Road Construction, Completion and Maintenance Project, moving the entire project into the civil engineering construction stage.

Kuwait is a tropical coastal region with mainly sandy soil. The temperature reaches 50 to 60℃ in the summer. Besides this unique geological and climatic construction environment, the construction process and bridge engineering standards are completely different from domestic construction regulations and standards. To speed up the construction progress, the Project Department organized professional Chinese and foreign engineers and managers at all levels to study the relevant regulations, held a themed technology meeting, overcame such construction difficulties as earth excavation, ground bearing capacity testing and mass concrete casting in high temperature conditions, and guaranteed the quality and progress of the project.

This project has a total length of 18.5 km and a total work period of 1,095 days. It involves the planned construction of an urban first-level arterial road with 6 to 8 two-way lanes, a designed speed of 120 km/h and a cross-section width of 60 m. The asphalt concrete pavement along the whole line includes subgrade, pavement, bridges & culverts and drainage works, as well as such complete safety facilities as traffic signs, traffic markings and monitoring systems. The contracted contents cover expanding and reconstructing the original 7.4 km road, constructing 6.8 km of new road, 7 bridges and 2 pedestrian underpasses, rearranging the overhead 132 kV high voltage cables and moving and rebuilding the relevant water system, gas delivery system, power supply system, network system, communication system and so on. Upon completion, it will alleviate traffic congestion around the airport and bring convenience to Kuwait University Town and the peripheral area around the airport.
