Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) is pleased to announce its decision to become a contributor to Nippon Charge Services (NCS), an organization founded for the purpose of establishing a convenient and user-friendly network of charge points for electric vehicles¹ across Japan.

The transportation sector currently accounts for some 20% of CO2 emissions globally. Reducing emissions therefore constitutes a serious concern for the automobile industry. As a player in the global automotive sector, MC is seeking to make a contribution to solving this problem by developing and promoting electric vehicles and related technology such as cell batteries and, in so doing, help to create a more sustainable society based on low energy use and a low carbon footprint.

The electric vehicle is a critical element in achieving the effective implementation of lifestyle practices that are based more on next-generation clean energy practices, and require comprehensive promotion. MC therefore supports moves by NCS to promote the installation of charge points and expand their accessibility network, and will back those efforts by making a 10 million yen contribution to the organization's operating capital.

The activities of NCS are expected to increase convenience for users of the electric vehicle by creating a network of accessible infrastructure. This will create momentum for the proliferation of this clean alternative and ultimately reduce the burden of the transportation sector on the environment. Considering that this is broader societal concern, MC is hoping that the initiative will receive further practical backing from the business community and the society at large.

MC intends to continue to provide indirect support to NCS's efforts by reaching out to other enterprises and partners to elicit their support as well for this forward-thinking initiative to establish a convenient and accessible network of electric vehicle charge point infrastructure. Fully mindful of the changes in society as well as of the need to protect the global environment, MC's aim is to create sustainable environmental and societal value by helping to solve global problems through business.
