Mitsui : T.E.N. Ghana MV25 B.V. provides donation to Tokyo Medical and Dental University for research on infectious diseases in Ghana

On May 18, 2018, T.E.N. Ghana MV 25 B.V. (MV25), in which Mitsui & Co. owns a 30% stake, made a donation of US$250,000 to Tokyo Medical and Dental University. The donation will be used for research on infectious diseases at the University of Ghana affiliated Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research.

MV25 provides the lease of one FPSO (Floating Production, Storage, & Offloading System, an offshore floating oil and gas production, storage, and loading vessel), as well as operation, maintenance, and inspection services for Tullow Ghana Limited, an operator in the Deepwater Tano TEN (Tweneboa, Enyenra, Ntomme) development area located about 60 kilometers off the coast of Ghana. The FPSO is named 'FPSO Prof. John Evans Atta Mills' after Ghana's former president, producing oil and natural gas extracted from a depth of about 1500m since 2016. Through these sorts of projects, MV25 is supporting Ghana's industrial development, and this donation was made as a result of research into a social contribution program which would help the development of the country and strengthen the relationship between Japan and Ghana.

Dr. Hideyo Noguchi died in Ghana while researching yellow fever, and the Noguchi Institute is an important base for the exchange of medical research between Japan and West Africa. By making this donation to a research institute that acts as a bridge for medical research between the two countries, MV25 hopes to not only support important medical research, but to also further strengthen relations between Japan and Ghana.
