Mondi : Wellpappe Ansbach develops innovative transport and logistics packaging for automotive hoods

Customer Daimler AG impressed by efficient corrugated packaging solution Vienna/

Mondi Wellpappe Ansbach GmbH has developed an innovative corrugated packaging solution for customer Daimler AG for the packaging of automotive hoods. Suitable for up to 10 pieces, this smart corrugated solution has proven to be more efficient than wooden crates thanks to its simpler, safer handling, low weight and easy recyclability.

The prefabricated, complete and compact transport solution is delivered as one kit, including a pallet, which makes its procurement, warehousing and logistics simpler. The kit is also very easy to assemble. Thanks to a system of exchangeable interior component holders, the customer can effortlessly adjust the kit to allow for shipment of different product combinations. In addition, the flexibility of its components makes the packaging universal and therefore suitable for many other product applications. The packaging weight is also substantially reduced which makes for a perfect air or sea cargo solution.

'Our innovative packaging is an ideal alternative to standard wooden crates and offers many advantages. As a packaging solution that can be erected and assembled by only one person without having to use any tools, such as pneumatic nail guns, or closure material, it is a safer option that reduces handling efforts and risk of injuries,' says Helmut Breuer, Managing Director of Mondi Wellpappe Ansbach GmbH. He adds, 'Furthermore, this corrugated solution is substantially lighter, which is beneficial for air freight shipping and reduces disposal costs, not least because disposal fees for corrugated are lower than for wood on a per kilogramme basis. Already in use by our customer Daimler, the new solution has also led to significantly fewer claims for automotive parts damaged during shipping than with the previous solution.'

Overall, this creative corrugated solution developed for shipping automotive hoods and similar products is only one of the many ideas and thoughtful designs in Mondi's range of heavy-duty transport solutions geared to optimising customer shipping processes. Compared to standard wooden cargo crates, the solution developed for Daimler AG saves costs and efforts from packaging to delivery and disposal and reduces troublesome claims thanks to its optimal protection of shipped goods.
