CHICAGO, May 19, 2015-Morningstar, Inc. (NASDAQ: MORN), a leading provider of independent investment research, today reported estimated U.S. mutual fund and exchange-traded fund (ETF) asset flows for April 2015. Inflows to international-equity funds accelerated to $42.3 billion in April after reaching $34.7 billion a month earlier, and more than three-quarters of these assets flowed to passive funds. Morningstar estimates net flow for mutual funds by computing the change in assets not explained by the performance of the fund and net flow for ETFs by computing the change in shares outstanding.

Additional highlights from Morningstar's report about U.S. asset flows in April:
• Active U.S. equity funds continued their streak of redemptions, each month's outflow larger than the one seen the previous month. April's outflow of $18.2 billion was the largest since July 2014. Passive U.S. equity had outflows in April, too, propelled by redemptions from SPDR SandP 500, the largest U.S. market-tracking ETF.
• Taxable-bond funds continued to attract inflows; intermediate-term and world bond funds were the primary beneficiaries of investor interest in the category group. The three active funds with the highest inflows in April were intermediate-term bond funds.
• American Funds continued to recover from consistent outflows from 2008 to 2013. After posting a small inflow in 2014, the pace of inflows has increased in 2015, led in April by American Funds EuroPacific Growth, which has a Morningstar Analyst Rating™ of Gold.
