Secretary for Transport Visits MTR-operated London Overground Sees How Hong Kong Runs Rail Services Overseas

The Secretary for Transport and Housing Professor Anthony Cheung dropped in to see the London Overground operations and took a train ride from Shadwell Station to Shoreditch High Street Station on the East London Line today (25 September 2014) as part of his visit to London.
Professor Cheung was met by Mr Jeremy Long, CEO-European Business of MTR Corporation who briefed him on some of the service improvements that MTR has brought through its joint venture company, London Overground Rail Operation Ltd (LOROL), to turn London Overground into one of the United Kingdom's top performing railways in terms of reliability and customer satisfaction.
LOROL started operating London Overground in 2007. Since then, it has ensured smooth expansion of the network and introduced a fleet of new rolling stock. Train frequencies have also been increased and customer service enhanced.
"I am very pleased to hear how Hong Kong railway expertise and best practices, combined with effective local management, have been the recipe behind London Overground's success, delivering enhanced service to rail passengers in London and contributing to the growth of the city," said Professor Cheung.
Building on its success in London Overground, MTR Corporation was selected recently by Transport for London to operate Crossrail, a brand new 118-kilometre service spanning across London from East to West. Crossrail will commence service in phases from 2015 to 2019.
