NEC : showcases carrier solutions at Mobile World Congress 2015

London & Tokyo, January 20, 2015 - NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) is showcasing its portfolio of solutions to help telecom operators use the network as a strategic asset - saving and making money - while delivering a better customer experience in the consumer, enterprise and government sectors at Mobile World Congress 2015 in Hall 3, stand #3N10.

This includes:

How smart cities can create efficiencies and fun with virtualization The smart cities of the future will be able to support a wide diversity of smarter culture, community, transport, environmental, health and education services using flexible and dynamically configurable open network infrastructure. NEC will share its experiences of successfully supporting smart city programmes with the key platforms that enable the collection, sharing and analysis of smart city M2M data. This is in addition to our plans for city-scale Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) platforms, building on our successful public sector deployments around the world.

Home service innovation with virtualized gateways NEC has created a spring-board for service innovation with our virtualized home gateway. Already we're cutting the need for home visits by engineers to fix broadband issues. We'll be outlining how SDN and NFV enabled virtualised Customer Premise Equipment (vCPE) can also support innovative new media center services, enabling personal content discovery and sharing both within the home and outside.

MVNOs' need for greater control and added value MVNOs have grown to be a force to be reckoned with. They're essential to help operators reach segments of the market which operators can't profitably serve themselves, generating higher margins with lower costs of sale. NEC will highlight how operators can host multiple MVNOs on common virtualized infrastructure, targeting new niches, such as automotive telematics, music or video streaming services, ad-funded networks or M2M for agriculture and industry and more. MVNOs can also invest in our virtualised MVNO (vMVNO) gateway directly themselves. It provides a low capital and operational expenditure friendly way of reducing barriers to entry in new markets and creating flexible offerings while avoiding investments in expensive bespoke hardware.

Improving reception through network densification NEC will also look at how our "New Last Mile" services - combined multivendor macro and small cells in a HetNet with Self-Organization Network features and wireless or fibre backhaul - is enabling operators to boost network capacity in busy urban areas to meet mobile data traffic demand as well as meet their rural licensing obligations.

Smart enterprises with true fixed-mobile convergence NEC is enabling carriers to use small cells at the network edge as an enterprise service delivery platform that enables true fixed and wireless convergence in an NFV and SDN environment. For example, the operator's small cell server can be combined with an enterprise's existing on-premise or hosted unified communications and PBX solution, enabling employees to use their smartphones like a desk phone with advanced functions such as hunt groups to route calls to an available team member, free internal transfers and least cost routing for international calls.

SME growth with verticalised cloud-based software marketplaces We'll be outlining how carriers can be successful with verticalised SME cloud software and services marketplaces. NEC is able to dramatically cut the time it takes telecom operators to launch a cloud app store to a matter of weeks and keep CAPEX very low with its cloud brokerage service and sales consultancy services.

SDN/NFV orchestration at the NetCracker exhibit booth (Hall 2, Booth 2J30) On top of NEC's complete portfolio of SDN and NFV solutions, NetCracker Technology, NEC's wholly owned subsidiary, will also show a blueprint for optimizing the implementation of new management and orchestration solutions for virtualized environments alongside existing BSS/OSS solutions, a critical step towards moving SDN and NFV out of the lab and into live production networks.

Vision 2020 Underpinning all these topics will be NEC's Vision 2020 roadmap, highlighting the key technology milestones on our journey to a 5G world.
