Exciting news earlier this week as we installed two brand new chillers into our S1 Sydney data centre in Macquarie Park.

This critical infrastructure upgrade was necessary to support extra capacity in data hall 2 and the forecasted demand for data hall 4, currently undergoing fit out.

The chillers are big units: approx 6m long, 2.5m high and wide; each will supply cooling for up to 2.7mW.

Transported by truck on Sunday to our S1 Sydney data centre, the chillers were lifted by crane onto our data centre roof and installed straight away.

Both chillers are now fully operational.

S1 Facility Manager, Nathan McBride, explains why NEXTDC chose these particular chillers manufactured by Powerpax.

'What sets these chillers apart from other models on the market are the six inbuilt variable-speed compressors,' McBride explains.

'These compressors allow for better power efficiency and they supply more redundancy, enabling us to guarantee 100% availability and deliver industry-leading PUE levels.'

S1 is currently on track to be one of Australia's first NABERS five star data centres.
