Thomson Reuters 2015 Top 100 Global Innovators
Nitto Denko Corporation (Headquarters: Osaka; President, CEO & COO: Hideo Takasaki; “Nitto”, hereafter) has been selected as one of the “2015 Top 100 Global Innovators” for the 5th consecutive year by Thomson Reuters Corporation (Headquarters: New York, USA; Japan Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo), which selects the most innovative corporations and research institutions in the world.
Nitto has made a companywide effort to appropriately protect the ideas for our inventions with intellectual property rights while also maximizing the value of our ideas by effectively commercializing them. In recent years, with the global expansion of the company’s business, we have actively promoted the globalization of our intellectual property initiatives, and we believe that these initiatives have led to our recognition with this award.
This award is also evidence of the recognition of Nitto’s initiatives as it continues to create new value in the areas of Green (environment), Clean (new energy), and Fine (life sciences), looking forward to the company’s 100th anniversary in 2018 and beyond. Going forward, the company intends to continue enhancing the value of its intellectual property, dedicating itself to practicing “Innovation for Customers” and maximizing its corporate value.
Since 2011, Thomson Reuters Corporation, a global information services corporation, has been selecting the most innovative corporations and organizations in the world as the “Top 100 Global Innovators” based on the number of patents submitted and their success rates, the global nature of the corporations and organizations, and their influence. 40 corporations have received the award for five consecutive years, of which 15 corporations are from Japan, 14 are from the US, and 11 are from the four countries of France, Korea, Sweden, and Switzerland.
Nitto Denko Corporation specializes in the manufacturing and marketing of chemical products used as materials for industrial and electronic components. Net sales break down by family of products as follows:
- optoelectronic products (53.1%): LCD-related products, conductive films used on touch panels, semiconductor encapsulating materials, printed circuit boards, etc.;
- industrial tapes (38.4%): adhesives tapes for electronic components and hard disc drives, surface protective materials, tapes for hygienic use, etc.;
- medical and environmental materials (5.6%): transdermal drug delivery patches and seawater desalination membranes;
- other (2.9%).
