These neuraxial components are designated for use in epidural and spinal access applications and are small, lightweight, and easy-to-clean. The standard SKUs work for bonding in two of the most popular tubing sizes. Additional pocket sizes, colorants, and ABS resins are available as custom options.

The ergonomic wings on the female connectors and the easy-to-grip hub on the male connectors make the components easy to use, and the medical-grade materials are clear with no colorants added to simplify regulatory management and biocompatibility testing. NE Series caps and plugs are available in vented and non-vented options to facilitate ethylene oxide (EtO) and irradiation (gamma or e-beam) sterilization processes. Nordson MEDICAL offers biocompatibility data to speed the adoption, qualification, and documentation of the new NE Series connectors into existing medical devices.

The compliant neuraxial connectors will replace the use of luers in applications such as spinal and epidural procedure trays used in most hospitals. The NE Series' physical design looks much like a luer, making a tapered seal connection, however it is slightly smaller so that it cannot be accidentally misconnected to a male or female luer as specified in the ISO 594 standards.

ISO 80369-1:2010 was published to create a series of small-bore connectors that will not misconnect with traditional luers or other new ISO 80369 compliant connectors. These standards were the work of many people from many countries collaborating as the International Standards Organization (ISO) Technical Committee 210 (TC210) and Joint Working Group 4 (JWG4) which was officially convened in 2007. This effort has already been legislated by California House Bill 444 which requires all California hospitals to remove luers from their neuraxial application devices by January 1, 2017.

Nordson MEDICAL's leadership in the ISO 80369 community includes their intention to manufacture connectors for all of the upcoming standards. 'We have actively participated on the ISO 80369 committees for seven or eight years, and we are delighted to offer these new medical-grade connectors as an improvement to healthcare safety around the world,' said Janel Wittmayer, Senior Director of Marketing for Nordson MEDICAL.

Nordson MEDICAL is introducing these neuraxial connectors, which are finishing development for device manufacturers interested in testing, qualification, and production. With lower minimum order quantities, complete product and regulatory information readily available online, and thousands of components in stock, Nordson MEDICAL's service and reliability are here to meet your needs.
