The final race of the "Pikes Peak International Hillclimb 2014" was held in America on June 29, where electric vehicles (EVs) of teams supported by NTN Corporation (hereafter, NTN) dominated the leaderboard in the Electric Modified division.

NTN has focused on development of EV system products such as the In-wheel Motor, while also providing bearings and CV joints to the Association for the Promotion of Electric Vehicles (APEV) and Mitsubishi vehicle race cars. This has helped to improve performance of the vehicles, as well as raised support for greater uptake of EVs.

Mitsubishi Motors celebrated its first win this year by taking part in the race with two "MiEV Evolution III" models that had been modified and improved from over last year's race model. These two cars came in 1st and 2nd place in the Electric Modified division. The winner from last year, Team APEV with Monster Sports, aimed for another consecutive win with the "E-RUNNER Pikes Peak Special," and beat last year's time to put considerable distance from 4th place but finished in 3rd overall. While the time difference with the overall winner powered with a gasoline engine in the vehicle division was just 2.5 seconds, the fact that division leader Mitsubishi Motors came 2nd overall and EVs dominated 2nd through 4th positions highlighted the superiority and new potential of EVs.

NTN will continue to contribute technologies aimed at further increasing the potential of EVs.
