McClain and Redbud score top rankings in three categories

OKLAHOMA CITY -OG&E's McClain and Redbud power plants are ranked among the nation's best according to a recent report published by Power Engineering Magazine. The annual ranking of power plant operating performance recognized the plants for reliability, efficiency and environmental performance.

'Achieving high levels of performance is a key ingredient within the OG&E culture,' said Donnie Jones, OG&E's vice president of power supply. 'These rankings are a reflection of our highly skilled and dedicated employees who are committed to optimizing power plant reliability in an efficient and environmentally responsible manner.'

In the category of gas combined-cycle generators, Redbud Power Plant, located in Luther, ranked 13th, reporting 7,883 GWh of generation in 2015, which is 17 percent more MW production than any other year for the plant.

McClain Power Plant in Newcastle ranked third in gas combined-cycle capacity factors and ninth in gas combined-cycle heat rates - two critical factors in evaluating plant performance.
Turbine hardware upgrades were performed at the plants which led to increased energy output while maintaining the same fuel input and emissions. Lower gas prices also contributed to higher demand for power from both plants.

The Power Engineering report is based on data and analysis provided by Energy Ventures Analysis. Data is collected from US Energy Information Administration form EIA 923 'Power Plant Report' and the Environmental Protection Agency's Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS).
