Ono Announces Participation in United Nations Global Compact

Ono Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (Osaka, Japan; President, Representative Director, Gyo Sagara; "ONO") announced today its participation in the United Nations Global Compact ("UNGC"), which consists of 10 principles in areas regarding human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption.

Since its foundation in 1717, Ono has been committed to pursuing business activities constantly with a sincere attitude and high ethical standards to provide patients in the world with innovative pharmaceutical products under the corporate philosophy "Dedicated to Man's Fight against Disease and Pain". With the 300th anniversary of our foundation, we signed the UNGC in order to further reinforce our commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR), and will penetrate the ten principles of the UNGC to all employees through daily activities.

About the UN Global Compact

The United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) is a voluntary initiative in which companies and organizations act as good corporate citizens of society and join efforts to establish a global framework for achieving sustainable growth by exercising responsible and creative leadership.

Ten Principles of the UNGC

Principle 1: Businesses should support and respect

the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights; and

Principle 2: make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses.

Principle 3: Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining;

Principle 4: the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour Principle 5: the effective abolition of child labour; and

Principle 6: the elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.

Principle 7: Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges; Principle 8: undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility; and

Principle 9: encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.

Principle 10: Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.
