Origin Chief Executive Officer Energy Markets, Mr Frank Calabria said, 'Deregulation is a win for customers, and those who are engaged and informed are best placed to reap its benefits.'

Origin also today reaffirmed its commitment to supporting vulnerable customers in South East Queensland, through its industry leading Power On program, which was top ranked in the Financial and Consumer Rights Council's most recent Victorian Rank the Retailer report.

'We have set aside more than $1.3 million for next year to help our Queensland customers pay for their energy bills in times of financial hardship. This support provides direct relief as the funds are applied directly to our customers' bills,' said Mr Calabria.

A key feature of Power On is early identification, engagement and support of customers experiencing financial hardship, to help prevent unmanageable levels of debt, and avoid the prospect of supply disconnection. It also employs home energy audits delivered through Origin's network of community partners to help manage customers' ongoing energy usage and future bills.

Power On has been operating for more than 10 years, and the program in 2014 underwent a significant redesign to improve customer access and outcomes, including a refresh of policy wording and promotion materials.

The Queensland Productivity Commission in its February 2016 draft Electricity Pricing Inquiry report recommended broad, targeted and effective messaging to assist vulnerable customers and allow for a seamless transition to deregulation.
