Orkla : rated high for climate change management

Orkla has improved its climate performance and is one of the companies that scores a high rating. This can be seen in CDP's recently published review of 5,500 of the world's largest listed companies.

Orkla has achieved improvement and receives a score of A-. In the assessment, importance was attached to factors such as companies' ability to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, set meaningful targets and track progress.

'This excellent result indicates Orkla ASA has implemented a range of actions to manage climate change, both in its own operations and beyond,' CDP writes in its assessment.

A total of 557 international companies were assessed in the Consumer Staples sector. Eleven of the companies were awarded a grade of A and 38 companies, among them Orkla, received an A- in the Climate Change category.

'We work actively to minimise our environmental footprint in every part of our value chain. It's therefore gratifying that we have now taken another step towards CDP's highest rating level,' says Inger Johanne Eikeland, Senior Vice President EHS at Orkla.

'At the same time, we are raising our level of ambition by adopting new initiatives. By purchasing guarantees of origin from Orkla's own hydropower plants in Norway, we ensure that all our electricity needs are met by renewable energy. In this way we reduce Orkla's indirect greenhouse gas emissions by close to 30%.'

Orkla has now committed to setting emission reduction targets in line with what is considered necessary to reach the science-based target of keeping the global temperature rise below 2 degrees.
