Pearson specializes in books and newspaper publishing. Net sales (not including sold divisions) break down by family of products as follows:
- educational books (83.5%; No.1 worldwide): educational books, higher education and professional training. The group also offers educational evaluation services and on-line teaching service;
- newspapers and economic magazines (16.5%; Financial Times Group): financial newspapers (Financial Times, etc.), business magazines (Investors Chronicle, The Economist, The Banker, Money Management and Financial Adviser). The group also provides financial information analysis and distribution services (FT Interactive Data and Interactive Data Corporation).
Net sales (not including sold divisions) break down geographically as follows: the United Kingdom (13.9%), Europe (7.7%), North America (58.2%), Asia/Pacific (12.8%) and other (7.4%).
In october 2012, the group sold the literary, scientific, and fiction books activity (Penguin Group).
