Members of the Premier healthcare alliance commend members of Congress for their leadership in developing a bill to improve the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS) electronic health records (EHR) meaningful use programs, as well as other health information technology (HIT) advancements that move our healthcare industry in the right direction for the advancement of interoperability.

The Further Flexibility in HIT Reporting and Advancing Interoperability Act addresses the need for flexible, interoperable HIT, particularly prior to imposing additional meaningful use requirements. As we have testified, these important advancements will overcome significant challenges among disparate HIT systems so providers can optimize their HIT investments to manage population health across the care continuum and support today's advanced payment models.

We believe reforming HIT through functional data standards, metrics and enhanced enforcement tools is essential to unlock and optimize big data in healthcare, provide higher-value care across settings and avoid the cost burdens associated with closed solutions. We look forward to working in a bipartisan way to further advance interoperability in support of this bill.
