ORLANDO, Fla., March 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Office of the Secretary of Defense awarded the U.S. Army and the Javelin(TM) Joint Venture team, a partnership of Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) and Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT), the Performance-Based Logistics (PBL) Award, which recognizes outstanding achievements in providing operational support to warfighters.

"I continue to be impressed by the achievements of the Javelin PBL team," said Steven Potts, U.S. Army Close Combat Weapon Systems Project Office chief of Systems Support. "This unique PBL sustainment approach demonstrates a commitment to what is best for the warfighter, while allowing for flexibility and further evolution."

The team received the system level support award in 2015, which is one of three PBL awards presented annually to government/industry teams. Team members included the U.S. Army's Close Combat Weapon Systems Project Office, Raytheon and Lockheed Martin, who together provided the Javelin warfighter the highest level of mission success and tactical operational readiness.

"PBL excellence ensures that Javelin operators will have the capability to deploy the system in any environment with the assurance that it will be effective in combat," said John Halvey, Javelin Joint Venture president at Raytheon Missile Systems. "That kind of mission assurance makes the difference in saving lives."

"The Javelin Joint Venture PBL team ensures that weapon system availability and reliability rates are maintained at the highest levels while also reducing sustainment costs," said Rich Benton, Javelin Joint Venture vice president and Javelin program director at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control. "Our strong PBL partnership has allowed us to reach a 99 percent readiness level for eight consecutive years, demonstrating our commitment to ensuring our warfighter's success."
