Regional Express : Mornington Island Airport Main Runway Closed Due to Runway Works

Mornington Shire Council (MSC) is closing the main runway at Mornington Island airport to undertake extensive runway works. The main runway will be closed from Thursday 10 November 2016 until Friday 9 December 2016, with the end date of the works being subject to change. The Rex services to/from Mornington Island will therefore be cancelled during this period.

Rex is planning to resume the Saab 340 services to/from Mornington Island on Monday 12 December 2016 subject to the completion of the runway works to the main runway. The revised Rex Gulf route schedule for the period of the works is attached.

Customers with existing Rex bookings to/from Mornington Island during the period of the runway works are being re-accommodated to Normanton at no additional cost. Rex will allow travel date changes for affected travel at no cost to the customer and Rex will permit a full refund if the customer chooses not to travel.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads has contracted Skytrans to operate emergency services between Normanton and Mornington Island using a restricted length cross runway that is too short for any aircraft type operated by the Rex Group.

Customers making a new booking during the works period to/from Mornington Island will need to book with Rex to/from Normanton and book separately with Skytrans between Normanton and Mornington Island. Customers should contact Skytrans on 1300 759 872 to make a reservation between Normanton and Mornington Island and for all other matters relating to the Skytrans service.
